SpriteKit: You can build games too!

I spent my iOS career building traditional apps but I always wanted to develop games too. So, a while ago, I did. SpriteKit seems intimidating at first, as the barrier for entry feels higher. But – fortunately for us – it’s actually surprisingly easy. Let me show you that everyone can build games for Apple platforms, and let me teach you a bit of SpriteKit while we’re at it!

Tim Condon

Getting started with Vapor

In this workshop you’ll learn everything you need to build a simple Vapor application. You’ll learn how to create routes, save models to a database and build REST APIs. This workshop is fully updated for async/await!

Sébastien Stormacq

iOS-native app with a cloud-based backend

In this workshop, create a data-driven iOS-native app integrated with a cloud-based backend. Learn how to use Amazon Cognito to manage user authentication. Discover how to design a data-first strategy with GraphQL APIs to store data in Amazon DynamoDB. Learn how to use an AWS Amplify library to authenticate users, communicate with the API, and download images from Amazon S3. You must bring your laptop with Xcode 14 or more recent to participate.

Marina Coelho & Peter Friese

Firebase & SwiftUI

In this workshop, you will learn how to build a SwiftUI application with Firebase. We will cover the following topics:

-Data modelling for Firestore
-Efficiently mapping Firestore data using Swift’s Codable protocol
-Fetching data from Firestore using snapshot listeners
-Connecting SwiftUI’s state management system to Firestore to implement real-time sync
-Securing your user’s data using Firebase Security Rules
-Signing in your users using Firebase Authentication

We will be using the latest versions of Firebase and SwiftUI, making use of Combine and async/await to demonstrate how to call asynchronous APIs using modern Swift technologies. Please bring your laptop, making sure to install the latest stable version of Xcode before the workshop.

Corut Fabrizio Ionut & Michael Skiba

Mastering SwiftUI

The workshop covers:

-The intricacies of @ViewBuilder and how the view tree works under the hood
-Making use of the proper tools for View design (ViewModifiers, AlignmentGuide, blendMode, GeometryReader etc.)
-Building custom layouts
-Tips and tricks on how to best structure your SwiftUI code
-Adding a nice touch to your app with smooth animations
-Properly designing your code with Actors, @StateObject, @ObservedObject
-Architecting the navigation layers in a modular and type safe manner
-The inner workings of SwiftUI and how to debug performance issues for a butter-smooth user experience
-Getting the grips of SwiftUI’s new Data Flow mechanisms (Environment, PreferenceKey etc.)
